Email deliverability checker

Enter your sending domain. The tool looks up its MX, SPF and DMARC records and lists what to fix. DKIM needs your provider's selector, so it tells you where to check that instead.

Short answer

The email deliverability checker looks up a sending domain's MX, SPF and DMARC records, scores them out of 100 and lists fixes. It can't see DKIM, which sits at a selector your email provider picks. Since February 2024, Gmail has required SPF or DKIM from every sender, plus DMARC from anyone sending 5,000+ messages a day. Yahoo requires all three from bulk senders.

Key takeaways

  • Score: MX 30 points, SPF 25, DMARC 25, plus 10 for p=quarantine or 20 for p=reject.
  • Gmail: every sender needs SPF or DKIM; senders of 5,000+ a day also need DMARC.
  • Yahoo bulk senders need SPF, DKIM and a passing DMARC policy of at least p=none.
  • The tool doesn't check DKIM. Confirm it in your email provider's dashboard.
  • An A grade covers authentication only. Spam rate and list quality still decide placement.

This tool looks up your sending domain's MX, SPF and DMARC records. It can't look up DKIM without your provider's selector, so check DKIM in your email provider's dashboard. Gmail asks every sender for SPF or DKIM. If you send more than 5,000 messages a day to Gmail accounts, you need SPF, DKIM and DMARC.

Who is this for, and who should skip it?

Best for:

  • Anyone setting up a new domain for newsletters or cold email
  • Senders landing in spam who want to rule out missing DNS records first

Not ideal for:

  • People who need DKIM, BIMI or blocklist checks, which this tool doesn't run
  • Inbox placement testing, since DNS records can't show where a message lands

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need SPF, DKIM and DMARC?

Since February 1, 2024, Gmail has required SPF or DKIM from all senders, and SPF, DKIM and DMARC from senders of more than 5,000 messages a day. Yahoo requires bulk senders to use SPF and DKIM and publish a DMARC policy of at least p=none. SPF lists who may send for your domain, DKIM signs each message, and DMARC tells receivers what to do when those checks fail.

Why can't the tool check DKIM?

DKIM keys live under a selector your email provider chooses, such as google._domainkey, and DNS alone gives no standard way to find it. Check DKIM status in your email provider's dashboard.

What DMARC policy should I use?

Start with p=none and a rua reporting address so you can see who sends mail as your domain. Move to quarantine, then reject, once your real senders pass. Jumping straight to reject can block legitimate mail.

How is the grade calculated?

MX records earn 30 points, SPF 25 and DMARC 25, with 10 more for a quarantine policy or 20 for reject. A is 90 or higher, B is 75, C is 55, D is 35, and anything lower is F.

My grade is A but emails still hit spam. Why?

Authentication is required, but it isn't enough. Gmail also asks senders to keep their spam rate below 0.3%, and sender reputation, content and list quality all affect placement.

How do we know this?

We read the checker's scoring code and checked every sender requirement on this page against Google's Gmail sender guidelines and Yahoo's Sender Hub on 2026-10-23.
